Subwoofer / LFE Audio
As a dedicated LFE (Low Frequency Effects) or subwoofer channel, the use of this cable is very specific and can be engineered as such. Carrying a low-level and low-frequency bandwidth signal allows the use of larger conductors for improved dynamics. Being low-frequency, subwoofers are subject to 50/60Hz mains hum – noise that can be picked up from the mains power in the home. Careful screening and directional grounding may be used to reduce this to a minimum, which has the benefit of also reducing other noise sources.
Varying construction methods and conductors are used depending on budget. Improved cabling over cheap alternatives will allow for quieter noise floor, better transient response and subtle details that are more noticeable on quality subwoofers.
