May 05, 2026 Engineering AV Immersion: A Reference-Grade Cinema Built on Standards, Precision and Kordz Infrastructure

AV Daksma and i arkitektura transform a detached entertainment complex into a dual-purpose 13.5.10 theatre, where rigorous design, world-class components and a comprehensive Kordz cabling backbone deliver uncompromising performance, reliability and future-readiness.

Detached from the main residence, a newly constructed entertainment complex gave project manager, AV Daksma, and architect, i arkitektura, a rare opportunity to fully apply their combined design, engineering and AV expertise. Within this dedicated leisure environment, the client’s lifelong dream took its most ambitious form: a purpose-built, reference-level home cinema engineered to meet international performance standards.

For the homeowner—an experienced enthusiast who had owned multiple theatres over the years—this project was never about simply upgrading equipment. It was about starting with a clean slate and doing it properly. Every decision would be driven by engineering principles, measurable standards and proven best practices, resulting in a theatre built not just to impress, but also to perform at the highest level.

Over six months, AV Daksma collaborated closely with the homeowner and architect in an intensive process of workshops, technical analysis and disciplined planning, refining everything from room structure to system topology before a single cable was pulled. What ultimately emerged is an immersive, acoustically refined, dual-purpose 13.5.10 theatre designed in strict accordance with the CEDIA/CTA-RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice.

Powered by world-class AV components and unified by a comprehensive Kordz cabling infrastructure, the space demonstrates how pushing the performance envelope, and embracing best practices in design, architecture, engineering and infrastructure lead to the creation of a no-compromise entertainment environment.

“This pinnacle project is a testament to what can be achieved when everyone commits to a shared vision and pushing the technological boundaries through thoughtful selection of products based on proven engineering and quality standards, and the execution of creative solutions grounded in science,” says AV Daksma owner, Luis Priego.

Here’s how the process unfolded with Kordz serving as the signal-critical foundation that helps ensure performance, reliability and future-readiness at every stage.

Building a Superior Shell

While the broader complex encompasses social and recreational spaces, the 6.5-by-8.3-metre theatre was reconstructed as an acoustically isolated environment, separated from the larger structure by concrete partition walls and engineered from the ground up for uncompromising audio and video performance.

A dedicated, equally isolated equipment room was created to house the processors, power conditioning equipment, projector and source components. By removing heat, noise and mechanical interference from the home theatre space, this design dramatically lowered the room’s noise floor and aligned the project with performance-driven best practices.

Audio fidelity is further elevated by the room’s meticulously engineered acoustic environment. Achieving this level of refinement was no small feat for AV Daksma and i arkitektura, particularly given the owner’s preference for natural stone, marble and wood, materials that are visually stunning but inherently reflective and acoustically challenging.

Reconciling these hard surfaces with the demands of reference-level sound required careful planning and precise execution. To maintain the architectural continuity of the home while achieving the necessary sonic control, the team incorporated hybrid absorber-diffuser panels throughout the space. Even the entry door was constructed with integrated absorptive material to preserve acoustic consistency. Loudspeakers were strategically positioned between treatments to ensure optimal dispersion, symmetry and tonal balance, all while maintaining a clean and cohesive visual aesthetic.

Laying a Foundation for Audio Excellence

From the very beginning, the client’s vision extended beyond a traditional home cinema. While movies were central to the space, he is an avid audiophile who deeply values the purity and emotional connection of two-channel listening. Initially, he assumed this would require two separate systems.

AV Daksma approached the challenge from a different perspective. Rather than separating music and cinema into two systems, or two rooms, they proposed engineering a single reference-grade environment capable of excelling at both. The solution would not hinge on compromise, but on precision design, carefully curated components, rigorous adherence to industry standards, and an infrastructure robust enough to preserve every nuance of performance.

To further personalise the experience, an AVA control system was programmed to optimise distinct listening positions. One preset is tailored to the homeowner’s preferred seat for critical two-channel listening, while another is calibrated for his favourite movie-viewing position. The system also automatically adjusts audio parameters based on the number of occupants in the room, ensuring consistent tonal balance, imaging and immersion, whether it’s a private listening session or a full house for movie night.

This level of flexibility and precision placed enormous demands on the system’s infrastructure. The Black Swan speakers require two discrete cable runs per channel because each module is amplified independently. Electrically and sonically, those parallel runs must behave identically. “Even slight variations in resistance or shielding effectiveness could alter phase relationships, disturb time alignment and compromise the speaker’s ability to perform as a unified point source,” Priego explains.

For that reason, AV Daksma specified 12-gauge Kordz speaker cable throughout the system. The consistency of conductor quality and manufacturing tolerances ensured that every dual run feeding the screen channels would maintain identical electrical characteristics. Kordz banana terminations provided secure, low-resistance amplifier connections, preserving signal integrity in a system where digital processing aligns components down to fractions of milliseconds.

The low-frequency section imposed similar requirements. Four 21-inch Ascendo subwoofers provide the primary bass foundation, complemented by a 32-inch infrasonic subwoofer weighing nearly 400 pounds. This extraordinary subwoofer features dual voice coils, each powered by its own amplifier channel. As with the Black Swan speakers, two perfectly matched cable runs are required to maintain symmetrical drive and phase coherence. Kordz cabling ensured that the delicate balance engineered within the Trinnov processor was preserved all the way to the driver terminals.

Sensitivity added yet another layer of complexity. The 20 surround and overhead speakers operate at approximately 97 dB/1W efficiency, while the front channels reach even more extreme sensitivity levels. In practical terms, this means the system reveals everything. The room itself, built underground, isolated with concrete and sand-filled block partitioning, and intentionally free of in-room electronics or HVAC systems, has an exceptionally low noise floor. In such a silent environment, even the faintest induced hum, hiss or electromagnetic interference would be immediately apparent and magnified.

This is where Kordz shielding and build consistency became indispensable. Balanced audio interconnects and XLR connectors from Kordz were deployed between processor and amplifiers to preserve common-mode noise rejection and signal purity. With enormous dynamic range and headroom available, there was no tolerance for infrastructure-induced artifacts. Any EMI introduced along the signal path would undermine both the intimacy of stereo listening and the scale of immersive playback.

Securing Strong HDMI Handshakes

The HDMI signal chain is particularly complex in this high-performance theatre. Six video sources feed the Trinnov processor. From there, video passes to a MadVR Envy Extreme processor for advanced image processing before reaching a Barco Residential Njord projector. This configuration requires multiple HDMI handshakes across varying lengths and device manufacturers – traditionally a recipe for instability.

To mitigate risk, AV Daksma specified Kordz PRO4 48Gbps Active Optical HDMI cables for long runs to the projector, Bravo 8K Performance HDMI cables within the rack, and PRO4 Passive HDMI cables for longer source connections and gaming consoles.

Navigating Network Speed, Stability and Future Growth

Network infrastructure was equally robust, utilising Kordz PRO SlimCat Cat6 cable, patch cords and RJ45 connectors. The slim profile of SlimCat proved advantageous during installation and for future-readiness. Conduit pathways were intentionally oversized and abundant, allowing for straightforward cable additions or replacements years down the road.

In fact, the physical characteristics of Kordz cabling proved particularly beneficial during later project additions. When a “Now Playing” display screen just outside the theatre entrance was integrated after conduit pathways were already in place, the flexibility, controlled bend radius, and protective caps on Kordz HDMI cables allowed the new runs to be installed cleanly alongside existing infrastructure.

Delivering Reliability in a Remote Location

The theatre’s location outside a major urban centre added another layer of responsibility. Service calls would not be convenient. For that reason, reliability informed every decision, from separating the equipment room to specifying Torus Power conditioning and high-grade infrastructure.

Kordz cabling delivers this reliability mandate. In complex HDMI ecosystems especially, unstable connections are often the weakest link. By standardising on certified, engineered cabling across HDMI, speaker, balanced audio and network infrastructure, AV Daksma minimised potential failure points.

Setting a Benchmark for Future Projects

This is the first project in which AV Daksma specified Kordz exclusively throughout. For them, it represents a new benchmark, not only in performance but in process. Engineering-led design, standards adherence, documented product selection, conduit planning for future upgrades, supervised installation and precision calibration formed the backbone of success. Every stakeholder understood that true performance is measurable and repeatable. It is achieved through alignment between standards, product capabilities, installation technique and infrastructure integrity.

From the moment the client enters the room, he is transported visually and sonically to another space. That sense of immersion is not accidental. It is the product of disciplined engineering, collaborative design, and a cabling foundation that ensures every signal audio, video and control arrives intact, synchronised and uncompromised.

In a project defined by ambition and precision, Kordz cabling is not merely an accessory. It is the invisible architecture that allows every other component to perform to its true potential today and for years to come.
